accidental my !**
Raffy has tested positive for steroids. He has apologized for his mistake, but stands firm that it was an "accident," that he never "knowingly" placed illegal substances into his body. All I have to say at this point isF that. I am done with this whole steroid thing. It has tainted the game I have loved more than any other for as long as I can remember. And now, I am washing my hands of Raffy.
First he calls Canseco a liar. Then he calls him a liar and denies, in front of congress no less, that he has never used steroids. (Remember Raffy waving his finger at the congressman, sternly reading his prepared satatement. pfff, what a joke - or so says hindsight). Next we all got to witness the should I, or shouldn't I sue tap dance. Fred Astaire he is not.
What really pisses me off is that he cheated and lied, but also that I believed him. I gave him the benefit of the doubt. Truly, I am almost as big an idiot as him for doing so.
So where do I stand now on Raffy?
"F that."-chug

- Hall of Fame numbers? Yes.
- Hall of Famer? Not any more.
- 500+ homers, 3000+ hits, and one ruined reputation and career.
- 1 offense = suspension & loss of pay for 60 games
- 2 offenses = suspension & loss of pay for 1 full season (all star games & postseason included)
- 3 offenses = never play again, foreit contract
- independent testing
- test whenever and for whatever you want

I wanted to wait and let this marinate for a bit before commenting. The obvious emotional response is that he will never be a hall of famer. I think it is important to remember that for most of his stats - steroids were not illegal. He is, without a doubt, a hall of famer. And I bet when more names come out (and they will) that he will end up a first ballot hall of famer. He just gets the brunt because he is the first. It will simmer down. His character and reputation will never return - but that is not what makes a HOF candidate.
That being said - I am utterly heart-borken at seeing the crumbling image of the man I shaped my hitting after. He deserves all the scrunity in the world for it. But you cant take away the numbers. He is a HOF'er.
