Stackhouse off the Bench
I know it is early, and starting lineups are probably not entirely set for the Dallas Mavs. But I am not sure I want to see Stack coming off the bench this year. He is a starter. He can score and he plays better D than Finely ever did. In fact, he may be an upgrade as a starting 2 gaurd.
Not that I hate Christie. I think he is a fine player and will fit in here well. But he is not the starter in my eyes. Yes he plays better D. But he cant score as well or find his way to the free throw line like Stack does.
Versatility is the name of the game when it comes to an NBA bench. I think Christie is a more versatile player in the positions that he can play; making him an optimum candidate to come off the bench for more than one player. He can play 1-3 and do his thing. Other bench players: Daniels is a 1 or a 2, Van Horn 3, 4, or 5. This is good for the Mavs bench.
And Stack really is just a 2. But he can do it better than anyone else on the team.

I agree, I would prefer Stack to start, but if he doesn't then so be it. As long as Stack gets the minutes he deserves everything will be ok.
My guess is that Christie is starting, because the lil' General wants every game to begin with an intense defensive stance; you know, set the tone with some monster D. I can't argue with this, in fact I like the change in philosopy because defense is more important than a previous coaching regime thought. (If a change in philosophy means we are only scoring 60-80pts a game then I reserve the right to change my mind!) I also can't argue with Stack being the best overall 2 on the squad. I really think when it is all said and done Stack will be coming off the bench, but dwarfing Christie's minutes.
One last point, I think the more telling item is not who starts the game, but who is on the court at the end of a close game, and my gut tells me Stack will definitely be in the game in such a situation. Here is hoping he can produce.
