Stack started on Saturday and had 22pts and 8 assists. Pretty gaudy. But the Mavs were also behind by 24 in that game. Avery decided this was a bad idea and Stack came off the bench on Monday. He only had 7pts but the Mavs torch the 76ers.
This is about wins. The Mavs need his (and Dampier's) production of the bench. The formula works. 22 of the last 24 games or some such.
One more thing to note. In the game you reference in which Stack started, he had a slow start in the first half. Daniels and Griffin started the second half and Stack came off the bench to spur the comeback. Point being, Avery made the decision by halftime that Stack is most effective and has the most value coming off the bench.
